Know the Difference
The three biggest differences between wood and metal or composite bats: first, breakage — if wood bats aren't used with the trademark up or down, or if a ball is hit off the end or the handle, the bat may break. Second, the sweet spot on a wood bat is smaller than an aluminum or composite bat, so hits that connect with an aluminum bat may be pop ups or fly outs with a wood bat — but hitting with wood makes you a better hitter, because it trains you to hit the ball on a specific part of the bat. Third, cost: a good maple bat sells for anywhere between $70 and $130, plus tax and/or shipping.
